JOHN ANTHONY (TONY) GOULD John Anthony (Tony) Gould, of Burnaby, B.C., on June 23, 2000, died after a courageous struggle with cancer. Born August 13, 1938, Tony was the only child of Constance May (nee Slack) and John Edward Gould of Sheffield England. His career started in research, as a chemist, switched to engineering within the steel and aerospace industry and finally, he taught and consulted. He immigrated to Canada in 1966, working at Manitoba Rolling Mills and then Boeing of Canada in Winnipeg. Tony moved to Vancouver, B.C., in 1987 and eventually settled in Burnaby. During these years he worked at Canadian Aircraft Products, then Canada Post and then at Weiser Locks. Continuously, he also taught part time at B.C.I.T. and ran an ergonomic consulting business. He continued working after being diagnosed with bladder cancer, until October 1999, when the cancer was found to have metastasized in his liver. Tony lived his life as an adventure and with energy, humour and unselfishness. He loved the outdoors and the simple pleasure nature would give. He was an avid skier and hiker and most years would see him in the Polar Bear Swim. He traveled frequently, alternating trips to England to visit relatives and friends, with adventures in new destinations. He faced life and death with courage and comfort for his family and friends. He will be missed forever by his loving wife, Mary Picard and her daughter Valerie; his sons, John Mark and Miles Clarke and their mother Elizabeth, all from Canada; his parents May and Teddy; his uncles, Bert and Arthur; his aunt Mary; cousins, Janet, Gillian, Valerie, Susan, Vanessa, Roger and John Victor, all from England, and many relatives, friends and students worldwide. Please contact the family for memorial service details. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Agency will be greatly appreciated. The family wishes to thank the Cancer Agency, in particular Dr. Chi and Shannyn, for their help and compassion.
