Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMIKE MAENDEL It is with sad hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Mike Maendel at the St. Boniface General Hospital on June 21, 2000. Mike was born on April 20, 1931 at Old Rosedale Colony, the eldest child of Michael and Anna Maendel. In his early childhood, the family moved to Elm River Colony near Newton, MB. In 1953, the family moved to Oak Bluff Colony, a new colony near Morris, MB, where he lived and worked until 1995, at which time he moved to Prairie Blossom Colony. On December 13, 1959 Mike married Rebecca Maendel from Blumengart Colony. He faithfully served the Hutterite communities in which he lived, as Turkey Boss for 22 years and Colony Gardener for 14 years. He was a cheerful peddler, delivering goods to homes throughout Winnipeg. He had a storehouse of pithy sayings and stories up his sleeve and often had little trinkets in his pockets for the children. He carefully passed on news that he felt would keep the extended family informed. Mike will be sadly missed by his beloved wife, Rebecca and two daughters, Lynda (John) and grandchildren, Jordan, Jeffrey and Lynessa Hofer and Margaret (Ernie) Kleinsasser. He is also survived by brothers, Jake (Irene), Dan (Hannie), Dave (Kathy), Joe (Susan) sisters, Annie, Dorothy, Emma (Lloyd) Penner; sister-in-law Pat; many nieces and nephews and lots of special friends. Mike was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Anna and by his brother Edward. Funeral services for Mike Maendel were held on June 23 at Prairie Blossom Colony, conducted by Leonard Kleinsasser of Delta Colony. His interment was in the Prairie Blossom Cemetery. Special thanks to Mikes minister Paul Maendel and his wife Annie who faithfully cared for Mike during his illness. Mikes wife, Rebecca, was exemplary in her commitment to excellence as a caregiver, quick to learn nursing skills and always there for her husband. Our thanks also include Mikes doctors and the nursing staff of the Intensive Care Unit of SBGH. But God will redeem my life from the grave; He will surely take me to himself. Ps 49:15.
