Dora was born July 27, 1916 in Neepawa, MB., the ninth of 12 children born to John Wesley Roe who farmed in that area. Her mother was Harriet (Hattie) Foreman Roe, born in England. Dora graduated from the Winnipeg Childrens Hospital School of Nursing in 1942 and pursued a long and varied career in nursing and teaching. She served in the Militia in 1946. She later worked as a nursing supervisor in Psychiatry and as a nursing teacher in schools of nursing at Health Services Centre, the Victoria Hospital and the Misericordia Hospital where she was much loved by her students and fellow instructors. She married Duncan Grant McGregor and they had one son, John. A step daughter by Grants previous marriage was Patricia (Blackburn). They lived first in Winnipeg and later in Birds Hill, MB. Dora was deeply interested in the welfare of others, including those with whom she worked, taught and those who counted themselves lucky to be her neighbours, family and friends. She had a lifelong love of learning, nature, music, other cultures and most of all, people. She was highly aware when a need existed for others and would assist generously with whatever she could supply. She was a committed member of the United Church and a dedicated volunteer in many organizations, including the Childrens Hospital Book Sales and the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Dora was predeceased by her older half-sisters, Lettie Roe, Edith Boughton, Ella Hall, Alberta Henderson, Amy Roe, Reta Campbell and half-brothers Hubert and Harold. She was also predeceased by her full brother John Roe and is survived by her sisters, Margaret Dewart of Edmonton and Ruth Rayner of Mississauga, ON. and by many nieces, nephews and their families. Dora was much loved for her wit, wisdom, kindness, insight, rich vocabulary and apt turn of phrase. She will be greatly missed.
