LAURENCE JONES It is with sadness that the family of Laurence Jones announces his passing on June 30, 2000, at St. Boniface Hospital due to complications following a stroke. Laurence was born in Melita, Manitoba on September 20, 1915, and resided there until he left home to attend the University of Manitoba. He graduated from the Faculty of Science in 1939 with a degree in Agriculture and Food Science. He was runner-up for the Governor Generals Medal. While attending the University, Laurence met Mollie Kreutzer and they married in September of 1940. They lived all of their married life in Winnipeg, West St. Paul and St. Vital. After graduating from University, Laurence worked at the Canadian Wheat Board for many years. Later, he worked for Balcaen Plumbing & Heating, and Westburne Engineering & Plumbing Supplies in an accounting capacity. He also worked part-time for Wens Food Market and spent many years working evenings at Assiniboia Downs. In 1985, he retired from Westburne Plumbing & Heating and has maintained his own residence at Appleton Estates until the time of his stroke in May. Laurence was predeceased by his wife Mollie in 1984; his parents, Margaret and John Jones; his brother Jack and his sisters, Meryl and Mattie. He is survived by his four sons, Wayne (Elaine), Larry (Carol), Douglas (Valerie), Tim (Cindy) and five daughters, Bonnie Jefford (Roger), Barbara Birch (Barry), Sally Sitarz (Ed), Susan Collins (Grant), and Janice Jones; his 19 grandchildren, Bruce Jones, David (Katherine) and Bob Birch, Carrie (Dave) Whitehouse, Steven and Jamie Jefford, Jeff (Mishel) and Jennifer Sitarz, Patrick and Kristen Jones, Erin, Lindsay and Robyn Jones, Diana, Darren and Daniel Collins, Stewart Laskey, Scott and Matthew Jones, and his great-granddaughter, Emily Birch. Also surviving is his sister Vivian of Victoria, B.C. In accordance with Laurences wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. If friends so desire, a contribution in Laurences memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301-352 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3B 2H8.
