Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDENNIS EDWARD DEEGAN March 14, 1946 - July 1, 2000 After a brief dance with cancer, Dennis E. Deegan, age 54, passed from this world to the next surrounded by his family and friends. Dennis was born in Winnipeg and grew up in the West End. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Adele (Hawkins) and his devoted children, Damien and Keele. Dennis is also mourned by his sister Mary Jane; brother-in-law Doug Duncan; his nieces, Michelle Thorsteinson and Kristin Duncan and his mother-in-law Audrey Hawkins of Westbank, BC. Dennis graduated from General Wolfe and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate as well as the former MIT, in Business Administration. Dennis and Adele assumed the helm of Hawkins Taxidermists Ltd. in 1974. Dennis was an honest businessman who loved the industry in which he worked. In the early 80s Dennis pushed the concept of "catch and release" fishing with his alternative to mounting a fish, the Perma Trophy Game Fish Replica. Partially, thanks to Dennis and his commitment to conservation, catch and release fishing is almost the standard in fishing lodges today. Dennis was also one of the founding fathers of the Manitoba Lodges and Outfitters Association. He was also a proud member of the Northern Ontario Tourism Association and the Saskatchewan Outfitters Association throughout his career in the industry. Dennis will be extremely missed by everyone who knew him in the fishing and hunting industry. No Sport Show will ever be the same without his silver hair and distinctive laugh echoing throughout the aisles. Dennis was very proud to hand over the 90 year old family business to his son Damien, the fourth generation. At his request, cremation has already taken place. A memorial service in celebration of his life will take place on Friday, July 7 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2400 Portage Ave. Rev. Msgr. Louis J. McCloskey will preside. Our eternal gratitude to the staff of angels in the Grace Hospital Palliative Care Ward for their constant care and comfort of Dennis during his five week stay. In remembrance of Dennis, donations may be made to the Rainbow Society, Suite 302-171 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 1M4. WOJCIKS FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
