JEAN ROSA MARKUS (nee COWAN) Peacefully at age 89 on July 1, 2000, Jean Rosa Markus passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital with her daughter Joan by her side. Jean was predeceased by her mother at a very early age; her father John in 1982; husband George Steven in 1978; two brothers, Ron and John; daughter Doreen Beel in 1996; and stepmother Sadie Cowan in 1999. Jean leaves to mourn her daughter Joan and son-in-law Alvin; sisters, Margaret Peters and Alice Hough; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jean will be missed by her cat Midnight. Jean was employed with T. Eaton Co. and in later years at the Winnipeg Clinic until her retirement in 1981. Her hobbies were knitting, gardening and crocheting. Jean enjoyed her trips to Lewiston, Idaho and especially enjoyed going out to the cottage in Beausejour. Would like to thank Linda Fierstine, Rose Krippeler and the staff on 4th floor, Unit 9 at Seven Oaks Hospital for the good care during her illness. A special thank to Donna Carriere, Gladys Brazil, Janis Bean, Heather and Dave Bevan and Patrick Beel for being with me during a very hard time. Pallbearers are Hugh Carriere, Wally Brazil, Stewart Deacon, Jim Bean, Jake Lindsay and Dave Brown. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 5 from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Bardal Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 6 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook St., with Pastor Bruce Martin officiating. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery.
