LEONARD (LEN) A. KIRBY Leonard Kirby, age 76 years, suddenly passed away at the Pinawa Hospital on Saturday, July 1, 2000. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Nellie of 55 years; his sons, Garry, Jim (Laurie) daughter Tiny (Ross) Wallace. He will be missed but fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Grant, Blake, Jordan, Paige, Heather and James. Also surviving are brother Bruce of Thunder Bay and sister Dorothy Blair of California; many other relatives and friends. Len was predeceased by his parents, George and Ethel; brothers, Howard, Herbert, Harold, Arthur, Frankie; and sister Ruth. Len was born in Kelfield, SK on January 16, 1924. After completing school, he entered the navy and went on to serve his country in the war. Len returned to Winnipeg where he met Nellie and remained to raise their family. He retired from the CN Railway in 1979 and spent his retirement wintering in Mesa, AZ and enjoying the warmth of the summers at Brereton Lake in the Whiteshell. With generally good health, he enjoyed his time fishing, gardening, walking with Nel, and watching his grandchildren grow. A quiet man, Len never spoke an unkind word. Dad, well miss you. The family wishes to thank the staff of Pinawa Hospital and the paramedics for their care. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 8 at 10:30 am. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Interment Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. Reception to follow in Glen Lawn Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart & Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., MB R3B 2H8, or a charity of their choice.
