John was born in Gonor, MB on July 22, 1915 and was predeceased by his parents, George and Mary Pihulak, and four brothers, Mike, Steve, Tom and Nick. He is survived by his sister Annie Robak of Edmonton, AB; sisters-in-law, Helen of Selkirk, MB, Sophie of Winnipeg, MB, Lillian of Fort Frances, ON and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and godchildren. John served in the Royal Canadian Navy for several years during the Second World War. In Red Rock, he was a longtime member of Masonic Lodge No. 672, and the Royal Canadian Legion No. 226, where he served as treasurer for many years. Upon his retirement in 1974, he moved back to Gonor to the family homestead. In his earlier years, John enjoyed photography and the outdoors. After retirement, he spent many days visiting areas around Southern Manitoba and tending to his garden. John was a thoughtful and generous person, and will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews as an uncle who took a genuine interest in them. He always had an open door for his many visitors, and he relished his weekly Sunday evening get-togethers with his neighbours.
