MARTHA YERYK (nee FRIESEN) Peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, July 2, 2000, Martha Yeryk passed away at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 61 years. Martha was predeceased by her husband Frank in September, 1998 as well as her parents, Katherine and Dietrich Friesen; brother Harry; sister Nettie and brother Jake. Martha is survived by her children, Garry (Helen), Rod (Wendy), Darren (Connie), Darcy (Kim), Linda (Vince) and ten grandchildren; sisters, Katie, Suzie, Helen; brothers, Ike, Peter, Dick, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. Martha was born in Dominion City on March 11, 1939 where she lived with her family until moving to Carrick, MB in 1952. It was in Carrick where she met the love of her life, Frank. They were married in Winnipeg in 1959 and resided in Transcona most of their married life raising five children. Marthas career was spent as a nurses aide with Park Manor Personal Care Home, retiring in November, 1999 with 27 years of service. Martha was a fun, loving, caring person who touched many lives. First and foremost in her life was her family; spending time with them at their cottage they built in Carrick in 1993. Martha enjoyed gardening, baking her famous garlic buns, making perogies and homemade chicken noodle soup. She also enjoyed dancing, singing, and most of all enjoying life with everyone who knew her. Martha always held a special place in her heart for her sister and best friend Helen Riha. Her strong faith in God helped her through the most difficult times of her life. Words cannot express the void we feel for this most unselfish and loving woman. Our family extends thank you to the staff at Riverview Health Centre for their excellent care and compassion of Martha and her family. Thank you also to Dr. Nason and staff and Dr. Choudry and staff of Health Sciences Centre. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Marthas life will take place on Friday, July 7 at 10:00 am. at the Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Ave., W. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends and family desire donations may be made to the Manitoba Cancer Foundation Inc. Id like the memory of me to be a happy one, Id like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done Id like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, of happy times and sunny days Id like the tears of those who grieve to be dry before the sun, Of happy memories that I leave when life is done. We love you Mom!
