She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Irvine; her parents, Minnie and Leon; her brothers, Roy, Harry, Sam and Al; sisters, Lillian and Ruth and son-in-law Nathan Streifler. She will be deeply missed by her children, Sheila Streifler, Harold Charach (Eileen), Neil Charach (Judy) and Elaine Campbell (Emil) nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Born in Winnipeg, June 6, 1906, to a pioneering Jewish family, Fanny was a life-long resident of this city. After the death of her husband in 1949, she assumed the management of the Charach Photo Studio, where she worked with her son Neil from 1952 until her retirement in 1990 at the age of 84. A devoted mother and grandmother, she was also an astute businesswoman who exhibited great courage and integrity throughout her life. Her zest for living and warm personality endeared her to many. She could relate to people of all ages and backgrounds. She had a natural curiosity and was always up to date on current events. Fanny was intelligent, open-minded, creative, articulate, independent, compassionate and very much a proud Canadian. Affectionately known as "Bob" (short for Baba), she was a role model and inspiration to her grandchildren, Leesa (Kenneth), Marc (Cindy), Hartley (Micheline), Elana (Cliff), Joshua, Yael, Marla (Sean), Ian, Dana, and her great-grandchildren, Danielle, Riley, Jesse, Seth, and Courtney. Funeral services were held at the Rosh Pina Synagogue, Tuesday, July 4. Pallbearers were Kenneth Bell, Sean Catton, Ian Charach, Tom Halprin, Marc Streifler, Nick Zusmer. Internment was at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Friends so wishing may make donations in Fannys memory to the Fanny Charach Fund, in care of the Womens Endowment Fund, Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, C400-123 Doncaster Blvd., R3N 2B4, or the charity of your choice.
