Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFREDERICK MURRAY SAUNDERS It is with sad hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Frederick Murray Saunders at the Grace General Hospital on July 3, 2000, at the age of 52 years. Fred was born at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg on March 22, 1948. Graduating Magna Cum Laude from the Charleswood Collegiate in June 1967, upon graduation he worked for the I.B.M. Data Centre from 1968 to 1970. Following the family "tradition", he joined the Canadian Armed Forces between 1971 and 1973 where he completed the Canadian Forces Officer candidate school course at C.F.B. Chilliwack. Returning to Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba, he earned his B.Sc. in Civil Engineering Degree; graduating in May, 1980. He went to work with the Saskatchewan Environment (Water Pollution Control Branch) in Regina between 1980 and 1986; where he earned his P. Eng. standing in 1983. Fred earned a place on the Herzing Institute Honour Roll in the Business Information Systems diploma course in March, 1989. Over the years, Fred was involved in a wide variety of activities: he was a avid wildlife lover, Corvette owner and admirer and as his Canadian Centennial project he was a volunteer chauffeur with the "V Pan-Am (1967) Games", and again as one of the Winnipeg 300 Spartans (volunteer chauffeur) with the "XIII Pan-Am (1999) Games", this was his millennium project. Fred was also the full time care giver to his mother. Freds active memberships included: the Midwestern Rail Association, particularly in support of the Countess of Dufferin; the Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists of the Province of Manitoba; the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering; the Alumni Association of the University of Manitoba; and the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 100). Fred was predeceased by his father Frank Lewis Saunders in January, 1993; and leaves to mourn his mother Lillian Violet (Babs) Saunders, his younger brother Kent Saunders and wife Maureen Ward-Saunders, and his niece Michelle Elizabeth Saunders, all of Winnipeg. Freds family wish to thank all the emergency staff at the Grace General Hospital for their valiant efforts, caring and compassion. Flowers are gratefully declined by the family.
