MANUEL NATHAN HECHT After a short and courageous battle with cancer, Manuel Nathan Hecht passed away at the age of 53 on Sunday, June 25, 2000, at Victoria General Hospital. He was born in Winnipeg on October 14, 1946. He was predeceased by his mother and father Yetta and Albert Hecht and his brother Jerry Hecht. He is survived by his sister Vivian Yanofsky; brother Gilbert Hecht and sister-in-law Roz Hecht. Also surviving are his nephews and nieces, Albert (Sharon), Arnold and Debra Yanofsky, Rhonda (Paul Rotenberg) and Michael Hecht and great-nieces and nephews, Jocelyne, Aaron and Evelyn Yanofsky and Daniel and Ayala Rotenberg. He worked for various shoe stores for 35 years, most recently at Canadian Footwear. His favourite pastime was bowling with his good friends on Thursday nights at Rossmere Lanes. In the last few years his family became a more integral part of his life. He enjoyed his Friday night Shabbat dinners at his sister Vivians with his family. Manuel showed great compassion for other people and put them first. Even though he was ill, he continued to show his unique sense of humour. A very special thank you to his longtime friends, Jeff Lee and Sandra Sherebrin for their concern, care and support. Grateful thanks to Dr. I. Maxwell and the staff at Victoria General Hospital 5th Floor for their compassion and dedication. Graveside service was held on Tuesday, June 27, at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery with Rabbi Alan Green officiating. Pallbearers were Gilbert Hecht, Albert Yanofsky, Michael Hecht, Dr. Ted Lyons, Alan Freedman and Henry Goldfeld. Shiva was observed at 26 Sweetwood Bay.
