MARY OZIRNY (KIRSTIUK) Mary Ozirny passed on peacefully on July 5, 2000 at St. Peters Hospital in Melville, SK at the age of 87 years. She was born on the family farm in the Theodore district on April 13, 1913 to Dan and Helen (Skrepnichuk) Kirstiuk. Mary was the second eldest of 15 children. She received her education at Warend School where she was a straight A student, spending much of her time away from school helping with the pioneering farm. She married Matt Ozirny on June 13, 1935. They lived in Theodore for a time prior to moving to Parkerview. She worked as a postal clerk while assisting Matt in their hotel business. They later owned hotels in Dubuc and Maple Creek. In 1967 they retired to Saskatoon where Mary spent endless hours producing the most beautiful garden of flowers, fruit and vegetables. She was very involved in curling, Community Participation and the Order of the Eastern Star. Mary was an avid Saskatoon Blades Hockey fan and was entertained listening to game broadcasts. In 1976 she realized her lifelong dream to visit Valiva and Veclivca, Ukraine, birthplace of her parents. Mary will always be loved and remembered by her children, Joyce (Gerald) Hansen of Saskatoon, Lindy (Bob) Blakely of Vernon, Jeanie (Gerry) McAlpine of Winnipeg, Merv of Melville, Patrick (Joan) of St. Albert, Bonnie of Regina; 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters, Bill (Anna) of Yorkton, Percy of Edmonton, Cecelia Denesyk of Theodore, Irene Kirstiuk, Kathleen (Fred) Procyshen, Betty (George) Karpiuk, all of Thunder Bay, as well as many nieces, nephews and countless friends. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Genick, Peter, Eddie, Mike and sisters, Edith Keithman, Doris Butler, Ann Solomon and Lillian Rawlyk. Prayers for Mary will be conducted on Sunday, July 9 at 7:00 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Chapel in Melville. A service in celebration of Marys life will be held on Monday, July 10 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Mary the Protectress, Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Melville. Interment will follow at St. Johns Ukrainian Orthodox Church near Insinger. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peters Hospital Foundation (New Hospital), P.O. Box 1810, Melville, SK, or the Melville Horticultural Society. Arrangements entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
