ANNE CHOMA (nee YARDUK) It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Anne Choma on July 8, 2000. She was predeceased by daughter-in-law Alice Choma (1989) sister Mary Hargis; her mother, Helen (1971) and by her father John (1932). Anne leaves to mourn her passing, son Daniel Choma; grandson Glen (Monica) Choma; granddaughter Sylvia (William) Mohr, all of Winnipeg; great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Sarah Choma and Nicole and Liam Mohr. She also leaves to mourn her brother Sam (Betty) Yarduk of Sioux Lookout, ON; and a very special cousin Mary Tarasiuk of Sault St. Marie, ON. Anne also loved animals and she has a very special spot in her heart for her favourite little dog Ben-Gee. Anne was born May 3, 1912 in the town of Tsapiwtski, Province of Zaleschyky, Ukraine. In 1923 at the age of 11 years, Anne immigrated to Canada with her brother Sam and mother Helen Yarduk. Their destination was Sioux Lookout, ON and upon their arrival they were greeted by Annes father John Yarduk. Anne worked hard all her working life. She was employed as a cook for Carlboms Sawmill; the Creosote Plant; the CNR Extra Gang; and the Department of Highways. Sioux Lookout General Hospital opened on October 1, 1951. Anne was employed there as a Supervisor of the Dietary Department and held that position until she retired 25 years later. Anne was an avid gardener. She truly had a "Green Thumb" as she won many awards and prizes for her gardening. She took great pride in her flowers, plants and vegetables. For 12 consecutive years she won the Horticulture Shield, donated by the Town of Sioux Lookout for the highest aggregate points. She loved Sioux Lookout and its geography. Anne often went for walks in the bush because she enjoyed it so much. One of her favourite pastimes in the summer was walking and picking blueberries. She could hardly wait until they were ripe. Anne was a member of the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary and the Horticulture Society. It was Annes request that no service be held. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Minty and the staff at Sioux Lookout General Hospital and also Dr. Gillespie and staff of the Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg for their excellent care and kindness. Donations if desired, may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8. "Baba, you are gone but never forgotten."
