Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGLADYS FANNY WITHER It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Gladys Wither, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, on Saturday, July 8, 2000, at the Charleswood Care Centre, Winnipeg. Born Gladys Fanny Blocksidge in 1906 at Birmingham, England, Gladys came to Canada with her family at an early age, settling in West Kildonan. The family later moved to Spearhill, Man., where Gladys met and married her husband Andrew Wither of Ashern in 1929. They returned to Winnipeg at that time to begin their married life and raise their family. Gladys was employed at Eatons for a number of years. An avid golfer and curler, she was a member of the Civic Cal Ladies Curling Club and the Thistle Sports Club. She was also a busy and active member of Harstone Memorial United Church until its demise in 1991 and from there transferred her membership to Westworth United Church. She was also a member of the Winnipeg Police Pensioners Association. Predeceased by her husband Andrew in 1973, Gladys is survived by one son Neil and his wife Verda of Winnipeg and their children, Linda, Andrew, Catherine and Cameron; two daughters, Joyce Forth and her husband Ab of Oakville, Ont., and their children, Bruce, Sharon and Laura; Jeanne Carlson and her husband Robert of Winnipeg and their children, Douglas, Sandra and Tannis. Gladys was a proud grandmother of her 10 grandchildren and proud great-grandmother of 13 great-grandchildren. She also had many nieces and nephews, cousins in England, many good friends and three very special sisters-in-law, Marguerite Blocksidge, Thelma Blocksidge OGrady and Margaret Wither. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the Charleswood Care Centre for their care and kindness to Mother during her illness. A service celebrating the life of Gladys Wither will be held at Westworth United Church, 1750 Grosvenor Ave., Winnipeg, on Friday, July 14, at 3:00 p.m. with reception following. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, Gladys has requested any donation in her memory be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301 - 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, R3B 2H8.
