ROSE WALKO (nee SIWAK) Peacefully on July 8, 2000 at the Rossburn District Health Centre, with her family at her side. Rose was born on September 18, 1908 in the Rural Municipality of Silver Creek. She was the daughter of Joseph Siwak and Margaret Laskowski. She attended Lima School until the age of 15 at which time she went to work for different families. In 1930 she married Wasyl Walko and they farmed in the Glen Elmo district until 1966, when they moved to Rossburn. Rose was a member of the sisterhood of the Holy Ascension Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ruthenia. After they moved to Rossburn, she joined the sisterhood and the C.W.L. of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Ukrainian Catholic Church. She was predeceased by Wasyl, her husband of 61 years in 1991; her mother in 1954; her father in 1965; brother Frank in 1982 and brother Bert in 1986. She leaves to mourn her passing, her daughter Mary (Tony) and their children, Rick and Kathy; her daughter Helen (Ted) and their children, Roseanna (Gary) and Kimberley (Brian) two great-grandchildren, Claire and Heather; sisters, Stella, Carrie, Adeline (Steve) sister-in-law Victoria and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the very caring and compassionate staff of the Rossburn District Health Centre for the eight years of excellent care of our dear mother. The prayers will be held at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Ukrainian Catholic Church, Rossburn on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at the church Thursday, July 13 at 10:30 a.m. The Rt. Rev. Canon John Lehky and Rev. Deacon Gordon Mendres will officiate. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family and friends may make donations to the Rossburn District Health Centre if they so desire. Raes Funeral Service of Shoal Lake are in care of the arrangements. "We have loved her during life, let us not abandon her, until we have conducted her by our prayers into the house of the Lord."
