WALTER KNYSH December 17, 1916 - July 10, 2000 The family announces with great sadness the passing of our father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Walter will be sadly missed by his only son Joseph, daughter-in-law Virginia, and only granddaughter Andrea. He also leaves to mourn his sister Rose Minda of Winnipeg, Anna and Katherine in the Ukraine; nephew Walter and Anne Knysh and their families of Winnipeg and numerous other relatives in the old country. Walter was predeceased by his wife Katherine on January 10, 1991; his parents and his brothers, John, Nichola, Lewko and Slawko. Walter was born December 17, 1916 in Postoliw in southern Ukraine. In 1942 he was forceably taken to Gissen, Germany. This is where he met Katherine and they married in 1945. In 1946 their son Joseph was born. They moved to Canada in 1951. Walter worked at the CN Shops in Transcona from 1951 until his retirement in 1981. Since coming to Canada, he was a member of St. Michaels Parish. He sang in the church choir, Surma choir, Dumka choir and the Ukrainian Millenium choir for many years. In 1988 he travelled with the Millenium choir to Rome, Italy and sang for the Pope. He enjoyed his time with family and friends at home, at the cottage and bingo. He lived a full and very healthy life until a fall resulted in a broken hip in May of 1999. He spent nine months at Deer Lodge Centre, then in April of this year he moved into Holy Family Nursing Home. We the family would like to thank the many care givers at both locations for the excellent care Walter received. We would also like to thank Michael and Lorraine Cebrowski for the many times they helped by taking Walter for outings, as well as including him in all family gatherings. Pallbearers will be Michael Knysh, John Knysh, Michael Cebrowski, Jim Cebrowski, Jerry Gajda, Mike Sajatovic. Panakhyda (prayers) will be conducted on Thursday, July 13 at 7:00 p.m. by Rev. Deacon Walter Knysh and Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, July 14 at 10:00 a.m. by Rev. Fr. Canon Walter Klimchuk and assisted by Rev. Deacon Walter Knysh. Both services will be held at St. Michaels Parish, 400 Day St. Interment will follow at Transcona Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined.
