HAROLD JAMES MOSTER Harold James Moster passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 9, 2000, at the Russell & District Health Centre. He was born October 1, 1918, in the village of Shellmouth to Jim and Ethel. He was the eldest of three sons and grew up on farms in the Shellmouth and Dropmore areas. He started dating Jean Patterson of Shellmouth in his late teens and left the farm in 1940 to join the RCAF where he trained and served as an aircraft mechanic. In 1942, he and Jean married and their daughter Lynne was born while stationed in Middleton, Nova Scotia. On leaving the service after the war, they returned and settled in Inglis where son Clare was born in 1947. Harold spent the remainder of his working career as a heavy equipment construction operator, a municipal road grader and a mechanic at garages in Roblin, Inglis and Clements in Russell when he retired in 1982. He enjoyed farming and provided help to his father and brother during the busy spring and fall seasons. He was an active member of the community, involved in the Canadian Legion, the Lions, the Inglis town council, the Board of the Russell Personal Care Home and as manager of boys hockey and baseball teams. He was an avid hunter and fisherman all his life, and in the early years of retirement, also enjoyed snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and some golf. He loved meeting new people, an opportunity which his work provided, and always enjoyed his outings with the boys, including many a curling bonspiel. Relatives and friends will remember his sense of humour and enjoyment in teasing others. He was predeceased by his youngest brother Gordon, who died in infancy; his mother in 1957; father in 1981; and brother Frank in 1996. He is survived by his wife Jean of Inglis; daughter Lynne (Dick) Laframboise of Portage la Prairie and son Clare (Shirley) of Selkirk. Funeral service was held Wednesday, July 12, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Inglis with United Church minister Deborah Smith presiding. The service was accompanied by the Russell United Church choir and organist Nelliene Leifer with a Canadian Legion Honorguard. Pallbearers were Rick Keay, Terry Munro, Daryl Patterson, Jim Spear, Ernest Sudbury and Roy Ziprick. Interment was at the Inglis Asessippi Cemetery followed by a reception at the Inglis Activity Centre, catered by the Russell U.C.W. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Russell & District Health Centre or to a charity of ones choice. Braendle-Bruce Funeral Service was in care of arrangements.
