Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLORNA ALEXANDRA SIMON (nee MILLER) Peacefully, on July 12, 2000 at the Lakeshore General Hospital, Lorna Alexandra Simon, aged 88 years of Ashern, Man. Lorna was born October 8, 1911 in Winnipeg and was raised on the family farm at Dog Lake. She greatly enjoyed the outdoors, spending hours riding horseback and observing nature. As a young lady, she cooked at the Lakeside Fresh Air Camp and the Knowles School for Boys near Gimli. Lorna returned to the farm to look after the chores when her brothers went to war. In 1947 she married Fern Simon and they continued to farm in the Dog Lake area while raising three children. In 1977 Fern and Lorna retired and moved to Ashern. Lorna enjoyed living in town where she could spend time with her friends and neighbours golfing, playing cribbage, bridge and bingo. Lorna also enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking for her family. They enjoyed travelling to visit family and friends across Canada, in California and Germany. She leaves to mourn her husband Fern; two daughters, Valerie and husband Garry Lind of Winnipeg, Edith and husband Ken Peterson of Ashern; one son Ivan and wife Karen of Grand Prairie, Alta.; grandchildren, David (Carol), Leanne (Eyvil), Kara, Kristofor, Todd, Greg and Tracy; one brother Harold Miller and wife Minnie of Winnipeg; sisters-in-law, Hilda Miller of Ashern and Mary Schwitek of Winnipeg; also a dear cousin Jack Pruden of Edmonton. Also many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, J.D. and Beatrice Miller; one sister Edith Sanderson; one brother Melville Miller (Huck) and one brother Edmund in infancy. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 16 at 2:00 p.m. in the Grace Lutheran Church, Ashern with Pastor Bob Lewis officiating. Service will terminate at the church, cremation to follow. Pallbearers will be seven grandchildren. Interment will take place on Tuesday, July 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Lakeside Cemetery. Friends and relatives may pay their respects from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 15 at Arnason Funeral Home, Ashern. Viewing also at the church prior to the service. Flowers gratefully accepted, and donations may be made to the Lakeshore General Hospital (Palliative Care Unit) in care of Marilyn Stroud, Ashern, Man., R0C 0E0 or to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild in care of Runa Mangl, Ashern, Man., R0C 0E0.
