Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHLEEN SUSANNAH NORTON (nee McCREERY) Kathleen passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital on July 16, 2000, at the age of 96 years. She is survived by her daughter Eldred Mancer; son-in-law Terry and grandchildren, Evan, Leanne, Kari and Michael. She leaves one sister-in-law Pat McCreery of Vancouver, B.C. and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves to mourn her passing her "second daughter" Mildred (Perry) Brattston of Delta, B.C. Kathleen was predeceased by her husband Harry (in May 1999) and by her brothers, Bill and Norman and step-brother Jack. Kathleen was born in Rathwell, Man. on December 9, 1903 to William McCreery and Charlotte Matilda Berry. Her father was one of the original homesteaders in the Indianford District. She grew up on the family farm, attending school in Indianford and high school in Treherne. She enjoyed all sports that were available to her at the time; basketball, curling and especially softball. She was also skilled at needlework and artwork. Her crafts often took first place at the country fairs! In 1939 she married Harry Norton. They farmed in Rathwell for a short time and then moved to Winnipeg in 1946. They bought their first house in the Riverview district and remained homeowners in the area for the next 53 years. Kay and Harry were members of Rosedale United Church (now Churchill Park) and Kay was active in the U.C.W. She also volunteered for charity groups and worked for the Progressive Conservative Party. For many years Kay and Harry enjoyed their cottage at Brereton Lake. Later they travelled to Palm Springs, California. They always felt very fortunate to be able to make these trips south. Kay was a very lively, outgoing and fun loving person. She made friends easily and was sincere and genuine in her feelings for others. Her life was enriched by good friendships, especially neighbourhood friends. She was a caring, giving person who was completely unselfish with the time she gave to others. She stayed at home until she was 36 years old helping out during difficult financial times in the thirties. She cared for her mother in Winnipeg for the next 16 years and she was always there for other family members when they needed help. "Mamie" will be remembered by her grandchildren for her endless supply of pies, cookies and cakes. She was still baking for others at age 94. The family would like to thank Dr. Oscar Domke for years of compassionate care to both Kathleen and Harry. Also the nursing staff at Grace Hospital provided wonderful service. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 19 at 11:00 a.m. in Churchill Park United Church, 525 Beresford Ave. with Rev. Don Hilton officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlands Cemetery in Treherne, Man. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
