JOHN (JACK) WILLIAM MISCAVISH XII MANITOBA DRAGOONS It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of John (Jack) William Miscavish, on Saturday, July 15, 2000, surrounded with the love of his family, at the Riverview Health Centre. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Valerie (Larry) and their children, Ashley and Ryan; Brenda (Lorne) and their children, Jonathon, Trevor and Shawn; Diane and her children, Jenelle, Natalie and Nicole. John is survived by a sister Joan (Percy) and a brother Casmer (Opal) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Katherine (1994) his parents Genevieve and John; two brothers, Harold and William (Bill) and two sisters, Vera and Margaret. Dad was born in Minnedosa, Man., on October 24, 1923, residing there until enlisting with the XII Manitoba Dragoons. He sought active duty in France and Holland during the Second World War. Upon his return at the end of the war, he worked in construction until joining Powell Equipment in 1959, where he remained until retirement in 1988. John married Katherine (Kay) Tramer (Southey, Sask.) October 21, 1950. In 1966 Kay suffered a debilitating stroke forcing John to assume the role of caregiver and mother/father to three small children. His strong faith, morals and beliefs helped carry him through these difficult times and enabled him to keep his family together. Though his worries were many, his complaints were few. He was a very kind and generous man who was always there for family and friends, in good times and bad. Dad was devoted to the Fort Rouge Legion Branch #97, and to the preservation of the honour and remembrance of veterans. Within the legion he held several positions over the years, most notably Sgt-at-Arms and President. His fellow comrades held a special tribute this past February to recognize his years of service. One of Dads proudest days of the year was Remembrance Day, on which he carried the torch, reciting "In Flanders Fields," at the legions service. Dads favourite pastime was playing cards at the legion. On several occasions he represented the branch, along with his teammates, at cribbage tournaments. The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. H. Unruh and the staff at H.S.C. for giving us five extra precious years, as well as the staff at Victoria General Hospital and Riverview Health Centre 3E for his most recent care. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, July 19, at 7:00 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 20, at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Victory Parish, Osborne at Arnold, Rev. Fr. G.R. Killen the Celebrant. Interment will follow in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, Man., R3C 9Z9, or to a charity of ones choice. Dad, we all love you, may you rest in peace. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
