ERIC HOWARTH Eric Howarth died peacefully at the St. Boniface General Hospital July 15, 2000 at the age of 92 years. He leaves to mourn his wife of 33 years, Margaret (nee Rae) his sisters, Eliza Gray (Ian) of Prince Albert, Sask., and Consuelo (Connie) Cooley (Victor) of Victoria, B.C.; plus nephews, Bill and Ian Gray (Joan and Anne) of Prince Albert, Sask. and Dennis Primmett (Janet) of Langley, B.C.; and nieces, Linda Mountford (Dennis) of Prince Albert and Diane Brown (John) of Billingham, Wash. He is also survived by Margarets close cousins, Margaret Norrie and Bill and Helen Norrie of Winnipeg. Eric was born in Glossop, County Derby, England, July 12, 1908. He moved to Canada at a young age and resided in St.Vital for most of his life. As a student he attended Norberry School. He worked as a carman for the Canadian National Railways in the Transcona Shops for 37 years, retiring in 1973. During the Second World War he served with the Royal Canadian Air Force and was an active member of the St. Vital Legion following the war. Eric was an expert cabinet maker and constructed miniature steam locomotives in his workshop. A very musical person, he enjoyed playing the piano until shortly before his death. The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Oliver Bereznay of the Windsor Park Medical Centre for his special care and the nurses and staff of St. Boniface Hospital, Ward A6, plus geriatric nurses, doctors and staff on E5; especially Judy and Carey, for their special care of Eric. Flowers are gratefully declined but those wishing to do so are encouraged to make a contribution to the St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation, the Canadian Diabetes Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of their choice. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 21, at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (across from the Mint), with the Rev. Dr. A.M. Watts officiating.
