HESSIE JEAN GUEST Hessie Jean Guest, widow of Henry "Harry" Guest, died peacefully on July 14, 2000 at the age of 82. She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Dr. Hal Guest (Anne), David Guest, Esq. (Jody), Dr. Christopher Guest (Karen) and grandchildren, Patrick, Anna Mae, Benson, Margaret Louise and Timothy. Hessie was predeceased by her son Timothy Edgar, who died in 1998. Also left to cherish her memory are special friend Jim Asselstine; cousin Anna George; nephews, Brian Conly, Glen Conly and Jim Conly; nieces, Margaret Franklin and Sharon Draham. Hessie Jean Conly was born in Winnipeg on September 15, 1917, daughter of Irish immigrants James and Margaret Conly. Her father died when she was three years old and Hessie was raised by her mother and two older brothers, David and William Conly now all deceasd. After graduating from Elmwood High School, Hessie earned a B.Sc. in Home Economics from the University of Manitoba, and then a B.Ed. from United College. It was there that Hessie first met her future husband, Harry Guest. They were married in June 1942. Hessie grew up in the United Church and both of her brothers, David and William were United Church ministers. Hessie was a very active member of the church during her lifetime. She was also an active member in the Schoolmasters Wives Association and made many close friends over the years. Hessie lived almost all her life in Winnipeg, except for a few years early in her marriage when she and Harry taught in small towns around Manitoba and for one year when she and Harry lived in Tallahassee, Florida, while he worked on a Ph.D. A memorial service will be held in mid to late August. A further announcement will be made at that time. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Hessie may be made to the Schoolmasters Wives Association, 919 LeMay Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3V 1E4.
