JOHN J. HAMM 1926 - 2000 It is with heartfelt sadness the family of John Hamm announces his peaceful passing at home on July 18, 2000, surrounded by loved ones. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 48 years, Grace; daughters, Diane (Rod), Wendy (Wayne), Debbie (Nick) and grandchildren, Danny and Carla, Kristen, Brendan and Graeme, Robyn, Landon, Donavan and Brooklyn; and mans best friend "Omie," as well as numerous family members and friends. John was a devoted husband, father and "Pappa" who enjoyed and lived life to the fullest. John served on the Winnipeg Police Force for 28 years, retiring as Sargent of Detective in April 1981. For 12 years he was employed in security with the Royal Canadian Mint. John earned a great deal of respect and admiration from both his friends and colleagues alike. His accomplishments were numerous and his love for animals was portrayed in the pride and satisfaction he took in his hobby with his horses racing. He also enjoyed his daily visits to Robins Donuts with "the gang," as well as his monthly luncheons with his retired co-workers from Winnipeg City Police. Children hardly know or guess the love their fathers cant express. With thoughts he seldom said aloud his heart is warm, his feelings proud. They do not fully understand his wisdom and his guiding hand. They do know each helpful word holds love unspoken, hope unheard. Yet as the busy years roll past, they come to understand at last. The worries and the fears he knew the problem times he pulled them through. They finally learn the full extent of what a fathers love has meant and realize how great its been to have a father just like him. Dad, your love, sense of humour, courage and strength will continue on in each one of us. "The most precious and beautiful things in the world cannot be seen, or even touched...they must be felt with the heart." In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, 200-55 Donald St., Winnipeg, Man., R3C 1L8. A service of remembrance celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, July 20, at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. Interment Garden of Prayer, Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Glen Eden Reception Centre. Until we are all together again, Dad. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 4477 MAIN STREET 338-7111
