LILLIAN EVELINA (EVELYN) BORNHOLDT The family wishes to announce the peaceful passing of their dear wife, mother, and grandmother on July 17, 2000, at the Deer Lodge Centre. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, one brother, and three sisters. Evelyn is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jack; children, David; Norma (Brian) and their children, Ian and Neil Gwizon; Jack (Ginette) Sally (Reg) and their children, Cory, Colin, Laura, and Phillip Kehler; Jim (Shelley) and their children, Serena and Jordon; brother Edwin Tullis of Scarborough, Ont.; and sister Kay Tullis of Regina, Sask.. Evelyn was born on a farm near Birsay, Sask. on March 16, 1914. She attended Normal School in Regina and began her teaching career at the age of 20. Evelyn taught in a number of schools over the next eight years in rural Saskatchewan, including Yellow Grass, Sask., where she met and married her husband Jack on December 16, 1942. Enlisting in the RCAF in 1942, Evelyn served overseas as a meteorologist in England. Evelyn returned to Ottawa after being injured in the war. Evelyn and Jack settled in Winnipeg, where Evelyn continued her teaching career for the next 25 years with the Winnipeg School Division. Evelyn believed, as part of her teaching philosophy, that there was a place in the world for every child, regardless of their abilities. Together, Evelyn and Jack raised five children. Mom took great pleasure taking her five children on cross-country camping trips during her summer vacation, while Jack remained behind working in Winnipeg. Evelyn was proud of her children and grandchildren. They all brought her many years of happiness. Mom was a devout Christian and she treasured scripture. She was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church. The family would like to thank the staff of T4 at the Deer Lodge Centre, where Evelyn "Lillian" resided for the last six years. Your compassionate care did not go unnoticed. Memorial service to celebrate the life of Evelyn will be held on Thursday, July 20 at 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with the Rev. Ken Innes presiding. Interment and reception will follow. In Evelyns memory, donations may be made to the Deer Lodge Foundation, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, Man. R3J 0L3.
