JOHN COLIN CRAIG July 16, 1973 - July 16, 2000 Tragically, on his 27th birthday while driving home from his beloved Notre Dame, Johnny was taken from us. John was born in Winnipeg and spent most of his youth in the Maples where he made many friends through his love for sports, especially hockey. He was predeceased by his grandparents and leaves to mourn his mother and father, Ed (Havi) and Jean; his sister Melanie and his brother David Willman (Glenda) and his dear niece and nephew, Abby and Nolan; Godparents, Diane Maybroda and Frank Lukawiecki plus numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and many, many friends. He will be sorrowfully missed by everyone. John was on the verge of starting a new life. He had just received his Class I beginners and was accepted into training as a semi truck driver. He was so happy last season being able to play hockey with his big brother Dave on the "North Stars." He was looking forward to moving into his own apartment at the end of this month. Johnny was proud to be a Notre Dame Hound and tried to life his life according to the words of Pere Athol Murray: THE NOTRE DAME GRADUATE The world today is looking for men and women, Who are not for sale Who are honest, sound from centre to circumference, true to the hearts core With consciences as steady as the needle to the pole Who will stand for the right if the heavens totter and the earth reels Who can tell the truth and look the world right in the eye. Who neither brag nor run Who neither flag or flinch Who can have courage without shouting it In whom the courage of everlasting life runs still, deep and strong Who know their message and tell it Who know their place and fill it Who know their business and attend to it Who will not lie, shirk or dodge Who are not too lazy to work, nor too proud to be poor Who are willing to eat what they have earned and wear that they have paid for Who are not ashamed to say "No" with emphasis. God is looking for them. He wants those who can unite together around a common faith - who can join hands in a common task - and who have come to the Kingdom for such a time as this, God give us such as them. Not only will they be better prepared to fulfill their duties as a citizen, they should make a better friend, a better husband, a better father, a better wife, a better mother because free people do. They will, in short, be better prepared to live, and when their hour comes, they will know better how to die because free people do. Msg. Athol Murray Prayers will be said tonight, Thursday, July 20 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Marys Polish National Catholic Church, 361 Burrows. An open microphone will be available for family and friends to share their memories of John. Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 21 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Marys Polish National Church with Very Rev. Msgr. W. Cwieka officiating. Interment to follow in St. Marys Polish National Cemetery on McIvor Avenue. A light luncheon will follow the burial at the Church. Pallbearers will be Skender Sefa, Clint Turcotte, Brad Woodard, Eddie Tome, Billie Humeniuk and Lee Joynson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Athol Murray College of Notre Dame, John Craig Memorial Bursary Fund, P.O. Box 100, Wilcox, Sask., S0G 5E0. Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 586-8044.
