GLADYS EDYTH RUSHFELDT (nee HUFFMAN) On Thursday, July 20, 2000, surrounded by the love of her family, Gladys Edyth Rushfeldt passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her husband Doug Rushfeldt in 1968; brother Stan Huffman in 1977; father-in-law Arnold Rushfeldt in 1987; mother-in-law Joanna Rushfeldt in 1990, and father Ralph Huffman in 1992. Left to cherish her memory is her mother Gertrude Huffman of Sundre, AB; special friend and companion Charles Delorme of Winnipeg; daughter Diana (Richard) Beaulieu of Portage la Prairie; sons, Doug (Cris) Rushfeldt of Kenora, ON and Gary (Tina) Rushfeldt of Dugald, MB; grandchildren, Erin, Sean, Tyler, Sara (Beaulieu) Douglas and Catlin (Rushfeldt) Dwayne and Daniel (Rushfeldt) special friend Casanna (Rob) Robertson, Brittany and Courtney of Maple Ridge, BC and sister Joyce (Jack) Smith of Sundre, AB. She will also be remembered by her brothers-in-law, Mervin (Shirley) Rushfeldt of Calgary, AB; Arnold (Betty) Rushfeldt of Bonnyville, AB and Terry Rushfeldt; sisters-in-law, Loreen (Jack) Brand of Sundre, AB, and Polly Huffman of Fort St. John, BC; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Also missed by faithful friend and companion "Lady". Mom was born in Caroline, AB in 1938 where she grew up and went to school. In 1957 she moved to Whitehorse, Yukon with her husband where they started their family and made lifelong friends, Dot and Leo Wood and Marian and Ellwood Lyle. In 1965 the family moved to Cassiar, BC, a small asbestos mining town 25 miles from the Yukon Border, and started a trucking business with mom keeping the books. The family enjoyed many good times in the close knit community and mom has stayed in touch with many friends made there. After being widowed in 1968, mom remained in the north and ran the business by herself facing and overcoming many obstacles that being a woman in business presented. After selling the business in 1970 she moved the family to Red Deer to be close to extended family. Here began her love for travel after a trip to Hawaii with family. In 1974, circumstances brought the family to Portage, MB. Here mom worked at Campbells Soup Mushroom Farm for several years, worked for home care for a short time and also worked for Edmunson Chev Olds for a few years. In 1986 she moved to Winnipeg where she owned and operated a Donut Shop for two years. Here she met her Charlie and after going out of business, spent her time enjoying life. Her children and grandchildren were a great source of pride and joy to her and mom was very active and vocal in the rearing of these grandchildren. Mom took up golf and she and Charlie spent many summers in their motor home parked at Oakwood where they enjoyed the game but enjoyed their friends even more so. Mom and Charlie have wintered in Mercedes, Texas for the last 10 years, travelling by motor home and stopping each trip in Branson, and also visiting Graceland, Nashville and Florida over the years. She shared her love for this yearly pilgrimage with her children and mother by inviting them all to Texas for Christmas in 1998. The wonderful memory from that trip and moms obvious delight in her home down there will last a lifetime. The family would like to thank the staff of Cancer Care at the Health Sciences Centre, staff at St. Boniface Hospital on 4B Ortho and Palliative Care for their support and kindness, and a special thank you to Bruce. A memorial service will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 24 at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons St. Cremated remains will be sent to Red Deer, AB, where a memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 28 at Eventide Funeral Chapel, 4820 - 45th St. Interment of cremated remains will follow at Alto-Reste Cemetery.
