Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAVID WILLIAM (BILL) FAIRBAIRN Peacefully at his residence in Eriksdale, MB on July 21, 2000, Bill Fairbairn passed away at the age of 79 years. Bill will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife Freida and his children, Linda (Wayne) Murray, David (Kathy) Fairbairn, Andrea (Bruce) Lang and Sheilagh (Patrick) Surinx. Bill is also survived by his grandchildren, Rob Fairbairn, David Lang, Kaeli and Kelsey Fairbairn and Zachary Surinx and his sisters, Helen Little of Victoria and Janet Sanderson of Portage la Prairie. Bill was predeceased by his parents, David Wm and Agnes Fairbairn and granddaughater Michelle Lang. Bill was born and raised in Portage la Prairie and joined the army in 1940 serving overseas in England, Italy and the European front with the 17th Field Battery. After the war, he began working for the Manitoba Telephone System as a lineman on various gangs. He met and later on married his wife on October 1947 and in August of 1950 became Districtman at Eriksdale covering areas from Oak Point to Gypsumville. Bill retired in 1981. Bill was very active in the Legion and was a past president of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #140, a past Master in the Harry Wood Masonic Lodge and past Patron of Fidelity Chapter O.E.S. Bill was always interested in sports and enjoyed many hours curling and golfing and, in later years, watching the games on TV. Bill took great pride in his yard and garden keeping it looking like a park, swearing he would get every last bit of portulaca out of the garden. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25 at the Eriksdale Recreational Centre with Student Minister Melanie Kauppila officiating. Service will conclude at the hall. Honorary pallbearers will be all of his comrades from the Royal Canadian Legion. Flowers gratefully accepted and donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (Manitoba Division), 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB. Arrangements by Arnason Funeral Homes, Ltd.
