ETHYLE MONTGOMERY (nee HALLIDAY) On July 22, 2000 at the Central Park Lodge in Winnipeg, Manitoba Ethyle Montgomery passed away at the age of 97 years. She was predeceased by her husband Donald in 1970. Ethyle is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Choma; son-in-law John; grandsons, Jeffery and Jason as well as by a number of nieces and nephews. Ethyle was born to James and Sylvia Halliday, early pioneers of the Elm Creek area, on December 27, 1902, the sixth of nine children. After completing her schooling in Elm Creek, she attended Normal School in Brandon and subsequently taught school in rural Manitoba for one year. She then took a business course and worked at Winnipeg City hall for the Health Department. Ethyle marred Donald V. Montgomery on July 11, 1936. Over the years her interests have included Square dancing, bridge, Rosedale United Church, golfing, travelling and lawn bowling, having participated in the Canadian National Lawn Bowling Competitions in the 1970s. One of her greatest loves has been animals; especially dogs. For the past several years she has resided at Central Park Lodge, Edmonton Street Winnipeg. A graveside service will he held at the Elm Creek Cemetery on Friday, July 28 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Harold Kenyon officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Canada Box 151, 162-2025 Corydon, Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3P ON5 or to a charity of ones choice.
