MARGARET STUART ROBERTSON BROWN (nee MACKAY) October 9, 1908 - July 22, 2000 Peggy passed away peacefully on July 22, 2000. She was predeceased by her parents, Hugh and Jeanne Mackay; sister Millie Ainslie; brothers, Ron and Hugh Mackay and her eldest son, Hugh Robert Howden. She was also predeceased by her first husband Dr. Alex Howden and second husband William Johnston, Q.C. She leaves to cherish her memory her son Dr. William A. Howden (Patricia) of Portage la Prairie, MB; grandchildren, Andrew (Cheryl), Cathy (Greg), Susie; her son Donald Howden (Marilyn) of Inuvik, NWT, grandchildren, Bill (Kathryn) daughter-in-law Phyllis Howden of Saskatoon, SK; grandchildren, Christine (Blair), Alex (Nancy) and great-grandchildren, Sheldon, Kate, Nicholas, Reese; sisters-in-law, Kitty Mackay and Del Mackay and numerous nieces and nephews. Peggy was born and raised in St. James. She graduated as a registered nurse in 1930 from the Winnipeg General Hospital. In 1935, she married Dr. Alex Howden. During the war years, they resided in Hamilton, Ont. After the war they moved to Neepawa where her husband practised medicine until his death in 1952. Peggy moved back to Winnipeg with her three young children and set up house in St. James. She worked in the surgical recovery room at the Health Sciences Centre and raised her three boys. In 1962, she married Bill Johnston and they shared a very exciting and fulfilling life until his death in 1970. In 1971, Peggy married Norman Brown and relocated to Vancouver, BC where she lived for 20 years. Peggy moved back to Winnipeg in 1992, and lived at the Wellington where she shared many a good bridge game with her friends. Peggy moved to Douglas Campbell Lodge in Portage la Prairie, MB earlier this year. Peggy was a vivacious, sociable person with a love of life, good conversation and laughs with family and friends. She was an avid gardener and spent many hours enjoying her flowers. She travelled all over the world, and told fantastic stories of her adventures. Special thanks to the caring staff at the Wellington in Winnipeg, MB and the Douglas Campbell Lodge in Portage la Prairie, MB. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Peggys memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would be appreciated or to a charity of ones choice. Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2:00 p.m. in Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave. Aubrey Street entrance. Interment to follow in Neepawa. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
