ANN PHILLIPS It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of our dearest sister and aunt, Ann Phillips. Ann passed away with her family at her side, on Saturday, July 22, 2000, at the Victoria General Hospital. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her only sister Julie Ledoux; niece Denise (Brian) Murphy and children, Chris, Erin and Tim; nephew Bob (Debbie) Ledoux and children, Jaylene, Cory and Robyn; nephew Gary (Karin) Ledoux and son Justin; niece Gloria (Campbell) Yates and children, Cody, Kali and Quinn; and cousin Mary Burrows of San Clemente, California. Ann was predeceased by her parents Fred and Lena Phillips. Ann was born and lived in Winnipeg all her life, except for a year spent teaching in Glasgow, Scotland. Her love of children and learning led her to a teaching career which spanned four decades. During her successful career with Winnipeg School Division No. 1, Ann served as a teacher and administrator at numerous schools including Champlain, David Livingstone, Sir John Franklin, Riverview, Grant Park, Grosvenor and Wolseley. She especially enjoyed teaching in the innovative Major Work Program at Queenston School. Ann was a committed, caring and creative educator who had a positive impact on the lives of her numerous students and colleagues. Ann belonged to many professional organizations and she particularly enjoyed her association with Delta Kappa Gamma and the University Womens Club. Ann was an enthusiastic traveller who took great delight in exploring other countries and meeting new people. With friends, she enjoyed excursions to many locations in the United States, Europe and the Far East. Her year-long stay in Scotland imbued in her a lifelong love of Scottish culture. "Auntie Ann," as she was known to friends and family alike, was devoted to her sister Julie and her nieces and nephews and their families. She gave unstintingly of her time, support and love. She especially enjoyed summers with her family at Grand Beach, trips to Grand Forks and celebrating birthdays and holidays together. Auntie Ann will always be remembered for her many "collections," eye for a bargain, belief in the power of education and unfailing devotion to her family. A funeral service in celebration of Anns life will be held on Friday, July 28, at 2:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St. Special thanks to Dr. Jain and the staff of Victoria General Hospital, especially the nurses on the 5th floor south for their compassionate care of Auntie Ann. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, Man., R3E 0V9. LEATHERDALE GARDINER 1501 Waverley Street 949-4860
