GEORGE GRANVILLE ALLEN Peacefully, after a short battle with cancer, on Sunday, July 23, 2000, Dr. George Allen passed away at the Grace General Hospital, Winnipeg, Man., at the age of 77 years. Remaining to forever cherish Georges memory is his wife Joyce of 38 years of marriage, sister-in-law Ava Stevens of Calgary, Alta., as well as his many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Winifred of Regina, Sask. George was born in Regina, Sask., on September 19, 1922. He was on active service with the R.C.A.F. during the war. After discharge, he entered Queens University, Kingston, Ont., to enter the medical profession. Upon graduation George completed post-graduate studies in Surgery and Obstetrics in Des Moines, Iowa. He practiced medicine in Kirkfield Mines, Ont., and later spent 14 years in Lanigan, Sask., where he met and married his wife Joyce. In 1967, he continued in Radiology in Winnipeg where he resided until his passing, but practiced in Flin Flon, Swan Lake and Treherne, retiring at the age of 73. Over the years, George was involved in and was a member of the Shriners Wascana Preceptory No. 51, K.T., Regina and the Lanigan Masonic Lodge No. 84. Also, he supported the Shriners Childrens Hospital. George was interested in all sports and he was an avid fisherman. His hobbies were gardening and reading. A private family service with interment will take place in the Kelliher Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Kelliher, Sask. Joyce would like to express a special thanks to the staff on Four West in the Palliative Care Unit at the Grace General Hospital. George received and appreciated their loving and thoughtful care, and he always greeted them with a wave of his hand and a thank you. Flowers are gratefully declined.
