JOHN RANICK On Saturday, July 22, 2000, John Ranick passed away peacefully at 93 years of age. He was predeceased by his first wife Teenie; two brothers, Peter and Jim; three sisters, Mary, Lena and Polly and stepsister Elsie. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Francis Veronica; daughter Janet (Allan) Boyda; son Ken (Joan) grandchildren, Charlene (Ross) Enns and Jason (Diane) Boyda; great-grandchildren, Kyla and Dillon and many nieces and nephews. John was born February 16, 1907, and spent much of his younger life in the Sarto area before moving to Winnipeg. As a young adult, he worked at Western Glove and later as a switchman at C.P. Rail. He also owned a family restaurant in Winnipeg and later a small business in Pine Falls. After moving back to Winnipeg he worked for National Trust as a courier until retiring. John and Francis moved to McClure Place where he was actively involved in calling bingo, playing cards and other volunteer activities. They spent many summers at their cottage in Grand Marais where they enjoyed gardening and frequently entertaining many friends and relatives, as well as hosting the McClure Place and West-End Seniors groups. For many years, John enjoyed singing with the Winnipeg and West-End Seniors Choirs, and he was an avid 5-pin bowler until his 91st year. Cremation and a private family interment has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 27, at 2:00 p.m. at McClure United Church, 533 Greenwood Pl., Reverend Hugo Unruh officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Rekrut, Bill Rekrut, Ted Ranick, Jason Boyda, Leo Fontaine and Sigmund Geib. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
