Mike was born on November 22, 1921 in Hadashville, Man., the son of Michael and Poly Laba. He was predeceased by his wife Nellie; brothers, George, Nick, Alex and John; sisters, Kay Puirko, Anne Ivanyshyn and Mary Fennan. Mike is survived by his children, Clementine (Terry) Horbay, Linda (Clifford) Rzyhak, Anthony (Marlene) Laba, Lucy (Gary) Birchall; his grandchildren, Aundrea, Jody, Tara, Matthew, Lindsay, Gavin, Stefan and Larissa; and by two great-grandchildren, Dani-Lee and Brayden and his companion Sophie Shendroski. Mike grew up in hard times; cutting pulp wood at a very early age. He was a carpenter by trade, working at various construction companies. Mike enjoyed the simple things in life - a good polka and singing Ukrainian songs. He loved the outdoors; animals; especially the birds; and spent many years deer hunting and he would retell each hunting story over again in later years. Mike also loved to pick blueberries in summer and mushrooms in the spring and fall. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, July 26 at 7:00 p.m. from Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. #1 East at Green Acres Lane with Rev. Fr. Edouard Bonin presiding. Interment will follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens with Mikes grandchildren acting as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mikes memory to a charity of ones choice.
