Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDMOND (TED) WALTER SMITH With profound sadness we announce the passing of a very special husband, father, and grandfather. After a long and courageous battle, Edmond (Ted) Walter Smith passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2000, at age 78. He leaves to mourn his passing his dear wife Jean, whom he adored and treasured. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Charlie (Gisela) Smith, Kathy (Scott) Weibe, Debbie (Gordie) Aitken, Rick Arnot, Bruce Aymont, Bob (Colleen) Smith, Raymond (Donna) Smith, Willie (Robin) Klatt, John (Erin) Young, David (Debbie) Young, Barbara (Jim) Reimer; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ted, beloved husband to Jean, was born on March 11, 1922 in Miami, MB. Ted joined the army in 1942, proudly serving Canada overseas. After the war, until his retirement, he worked as an auto mechanic. Ted operated his own Roco Service Station in St. Vital for many years. Always a friend to someone in need, he could be counted on to help all who crossed his path. He also served as a longtime volunteer with Age and Opportunity. A lifetime resident of Fort Garry, Ted enjoyed the outdoors. Although auto mechanics was his trade, he was also exceptional at plumbing, electrical, and carpentry. Ted built his home in which he lived for more than 52 years. Always an excellent role model, Ted passed on his vast knowledge and strong work ethics to his children. Ted cared deeply for each one of his 11 children. A Celebration of Teds Life will be held on Friday, July 28 at 10:00 a.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St. Interment will follow at Garry Memorial Park, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the doctors and staff of the 5th floor at Victoria General Hospital, and to Teds orderlies from Home Care. Your thoughtfulness and consideration will always be remembered. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Teds memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8.
