Date of Passing: Jul 18, 2000
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAVID RANSOME GIBSON On Tuesday, July 18, 2000, David Ransome Gibson, of Killarney, passed away at the age of 73. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by dear friend Mavis Cullen, Dorothy Gibson and three children, Bunny (Rick) Williamson of Portage la Prairie, Lori (Larry) Christie of Bakersfield, California, Rocky Gibson and friend Shawna Wilkins of Killarney and seven grandchildren, Danny, Leah, Angie Williamson, Jolene Christie, Dominique, Michelle, Chelsea Gibson. He is survived by two sisters and three brothers, Calvin (Christina) Gibson of Cartwright, Gayle (Bob) Currie of La Riviere, Kenny Sabad of Souris, Faye (Danny) Stacey of Calgary, Alta. and Jimmy Sabad of Holmfield, plus many nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his father Peter Gibson; his mother Mabel (Gibson, Sabad) Dorward; sister-in-law Myrtle Sabad; nephews, Brent Gibson and Regan Leflar. Dad lived life to the fullest. He was raised in the Holmfield area and farmed there for a short time. Later he owned and operated the Shamrock Drive In and Gaiety Theatre with wife Dorothy. Dad was also involved in business ventures in the Chrysler Dealership and Erin Inn with son Rocky. He was one of the originals who participated in getting the Killarney Mall in operation and was involved in other business affairs of Killarney. While Dad was Mayor (1966 - 1976), he was active in developing and promoting Killarney and continued this as a citizen. He always enjoyed political debates and was active in party politics in his middle years. As a father he taught us to stand up for what we believe in, work hard and be involved. He was proud of his childrens accomplishments and supported us in what we did. He also was always interested in what his grandchildren were doing. Dad enjoyed golfing on a daily basis with his Killarney buddies and also traveled to golf with friends. He was an avid curler all his life and curled often with Roy Pugh and Harvey Nichol. In his later years he played ball in Senior Tournaments. Dad loved to dance and just hearing fiddle music got his feet moving. Traveling was a strong interest for Dad, and he and Mavis had just returned from a 7-week vacation in Australia at the end of February. Shortly after that he became ill. After a short illness and a recent operation Dad had a heart attack. Dads wishes were to be cremated. Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 22, at 2:00 p.m. at the Killarney Funeral Chapel. In lieu of floral tributes, if friends and relatives so desire, donations may be made to the Killarney Foundation in his name.
