JOHN STRAUSS It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of John Strauss of Selkirk, MB. John leaves his loving wife of 55 years, Victoria; one daughter Gladys (Don Klassen) and three sons, Roger (Hazel), Larry (Irene) and Gerald (Donna) nine grandchildren, Michael, Joey, Jeff, Kevin, Billy, Duke, Jerry, Victoria, and Alexandria and ten great-grandchildren; brothers, Alex and Nick; sisters, Katie, Annie, Jean and Lucy. John was predeceased by his parents, Matthew and Katie; brothers, Matt and Andrew; sisters, Lena Mary and Sophia. John was born on June 15, 1920 at Sheho, Saskatchewan where his lived and met his loving wife Victoria. John then spent his early years mining for Inco mines in Sudbury, Ont. Upon returning to Saskatchewan, John was employed by Federated Co-Op for 25 years and worked in various towns and cities including Yorkton and Morden. In 1968, John and Victoria moved to Austin, Man. and took over the Gulf service station, restaurant and bulk fuel facility. They remained there until 1978 when John and Vicki purchased a farm where he raised cattle and drove a school bus. Then in 1996, John and Victoria decided to sell the farm and move to Selkirk, MB and permanently retire. John was an avid sportsman and will be missed by the many friends he made during his years as a determined cribbage player, umpire and golfer. His kindness and devotion to his family will be missed by all who knew him for John never complained about anything or anyone, and always had a kind word to say. John is now at rest with our Lord. Dad - Gramps youre a perfect 29. Donations may be made to the Palliative care centre in care of the Selkirk General Hospital. Viewing will be at the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk located at 309 Eveline St. on Wednesday, August 2 (tonight) at 8:30 p.m. Funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, August 3 at 1:00 p.m., which will also take place at the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Hugh Laidlaw officiating. Interment to follow at St. Clements Cemetery. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
