RAYMOND FRANCOIS CHATEL Peacefully while vacationing with all his family at Wallace Lake, on Monday July 31, 2000, Mr. Raymond Chatel of St-Claude, Man., passed away at the age of 76 years. He leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife Lucille (nee Arbez) six children, Suzanne (Gerald Tetreault) of Ile des Chenes, Nicole (Larry Pontus) of Yellowknife, Denise (Robert Hebert) of St-Claude, Normand (Shannon Burns) of Winnipeg, Lorraine (Roger Rouire) of Ile des Chenes, Nadine (Fernand Saurette) of Ste-Anne; ten grandchildren, Corinne, Brigitte, Michel, Danielle, Shephane, Marc, Roger, Liam, David Louis and Maryse. Also one sister Elise Chatel of Winnipeg and numerous relatives and friends. He was predeceased by one sister Emilie Chatel in 1998. Raymond was born and raised in St-Claude, Man., where he lived most of his life. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1943 to 1946, after which time he worked for Arbez Lumber and Hardware in St-Claude. There he met and married the bosss daughter, Lucille, in 1953. He later owned and operated the lumberyard from 1967 to 1975. An insurance agent since 1952, he operated his own agency from 1975 until his retirement in 1984. Following his retirement, Raymond was very involved in many community and parish organizations, giving freely of his time and talents. He was an accomplished gardener, and skilled at wood working and wood carving, receiving many awards for his craftsmanship. Over the years, he continued to enjoy hunting, fishing and camping, especially when it meant spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He passed away surrounded by his family enjoying the sunshine, the lake and a bountiful catch at his favourite campground. Prayers will be held at Adams Funeral Home on Thursday August 3 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated in the St-Claude Roman Catholic Church on Friday August 4 at 10:30 a.m., with Msgr. Roger Bazin officiating. Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery.
