Date of Passing: Aug 01, 2000
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIDA GOLDSTEIN (FENSTER) With deep sadness we announce the passing of Ida Goldstein (Fenster), our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, relative and friend. Ida passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2000 at the age of 84. Ida was predeceased by her parents, Rasha and Kadish; her husband Harry; brothers, Phil and Harry, and sister Tilly. Ida will be greatly missed by her sister Freeda; her children, Phil (and Lyvia), Ivan (and Galit), Celia (and Bruce) her grandchildren, Shelley (and Dusty), Tyrone (and Michelle), Hayn, Ori and Lee, Ari, Jared and Marti; her great-grandchildren, Kathleen, Tamara and Justin, Chelsey and Cody; her in-laws, Betty and Dave Goldstein, Sara Fenster and Joe Goldstein; her cousin Sabina Frank; her niece in England Claire Bland (Jim Leech), and her many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Ida spent her formative years in the Jewish farming community of Edenbridge, Sask. There she developed the values that governed her life; a strong Jewish identity and a deep commitment to family and community. She moved to Winnipeg in her early twenties and married Harry. In a home full of love, they raised their three children, providing them with the tools and opportunities they needed to make the most of their lives. Ida was a marvellous homemaker. Not only were the smells from her kitchen wonderful, but the home was open to everyone. Although the house was very small, it was full of company. When she felt her children were sufficiently independent, Ida began to work out of the home. She was chief cook at Camp Massad, a home economics teacher at Talmud Torah School, a caterer and finally, she spent many years as a buyer (china and jewellery) and salesperson at Mitchell-Copp Jewellers. She brought to her work the same commitment and care that she gave to her home life. Ida was also committed to the work of Hadassah, and to the development of strong Jewish education. She read voraciously and was well-informed on a variety of topics, particularly issues of Israel politics and social justice. In her later years, Ida devoted all her love to her immediate family. They will forever appreciate and remember her for it. We thank the Sharon Home staff and special friend, Jenny Litvin for taking care of Ida during the final difficult times. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 4 at 12:30 p.m. at the Chesed Shel Emes Chapel with Rabbi Alan Green officiating. Donations may be made to a charity of choice. Ida will remain in our hearts forever.
