Johnny was born and raised in Winnipeg. He worked with Canada Post for over 30 years and spent a good part of his life walking the streets of St. James delivering mail until his retirement in 1998. He was from the old school of what makes a good postman. He would always find a moment to stop and chat with friends along his many routes. He loved children and dogs and especially his cat Willie. He adored his many nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces. He was an avid horseman and loved to stand by the rail and watch the morning workouts of the thoroughbreds at Assiniboia Downs. Johnny was an active member of Brimstone Stable and you could always find him in the track kitchen on the backside, telling stories of his next winner. Most recently he took up writing for the Daily Racing and was enjoying the challenge of creating a column. Johnny always found time to help family and friends and he was always right there when help was needed. We will forever remember his smile, laughter and his love. Service will take place at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. on Wednesday, August 9 at 12:30 p.m., with a reception to follow.
