JOHN HUGHES Peacefully with his brother George, sister-in-law Carol and niece Vandi at his side, John Robert Hughes, aged 67, passed away at St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit on August 2, 2000. He is survived by daughters, Donna Baker (Ryan and grandchildren, Shawna, Rhonda and Lindsay) of Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia and Diana Champigny (Guy and grandchildren Luc and Jean-Guy) of Wainwright, Alberta. Also surviving are brothers, George of Winnipeg, Glen of Olds, Alberta and David of Calgary, Alberta; sister Irene LaPorte of Castlegar, BC; nieces, Vandi, Melanie and Nicole; nephew Philip; and grand-niece Kacey. John was raised in a farming community near Olds, Alberta. He was a member of the R.C.A.F., and retired as a Warrant Officer after 36 years service. He spent his retirement years in Winnipeg, actively involved in golfing, curling and bowling. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ebbeling-Treon and the staff of 6A Medicine and Palliative Care at St. Boniface Hospital. It was Johns wish that no funeral or memorial service be held. Cremation arrangements entrusted to Desjardins Funeral Chapel.
