Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVICTOR HAROLD DAVEY Victor Harold Davey, born September 8, 1917 in Winnipeg, Man., passed away peacefully July 31, 2000 at The Lodge at Broadmead, Victoria. Vic will be lovingly remembered by his wife Olive; sons, Peter (Helene) and Warren (Debra) daughters, Marguerite (Bob) Ellis, Helen (Rick) Shrieves; grandchildren, Tracey (Vince) Alvernaz, Mark Suggitt, Jennifer and Jeffrey Davey, Erin, Laura and Sarah Davey, Tommy and Whitney Shrieves; great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Matthew Alvarnaz (Tracey) and Ashlie and Jordan Davey (Jennifer) brother Ken Davey and sister Irene Holder; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Vic was predeceased by his parents and brother Arnold. During Vics lifetime he enjoyed flying, golf, tennis, badminton, boating, fishing and his involvement with the Boy Scouts. Vics interest in aviation began at an early age when in 1935 he held a world model airplane flight record. He later earned his commercial pilots license and his engineering certificate. Vic owned several airplanes and was a bush pilot throughout northern Manitoba. During the Second World War he was responsible for the air traffic control branch of the RCAF. Later Vic held positions as the Far East and Pacific Representative and the Chief of Regional Affairs for ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization), a branch of the United Nations. Vics career with the U.N. took him and Olive all over the world. During their 53 year marriage they lived in Melbourne (Australia), Bangkok (Thailand), Montreal, and Kuala Lumpur (Malayasia), finally retiring in Victoria. Although Vic traveled extensively throughout the world the place closest to his heart was his property on Nelson Island where he and Olive spent their annual home leave. There he would spend many happy hours puttering in his workshop building or repairing boats and motors, as well as teaching his children and grandchildren the fine art of straightening and sorting nails. Even while living in Montreal the draw of the west and the cottage was great. For eight summers, Vic and Olive gathered up the children and made the pilgrimage across Canada (by car) to Nelson Island. While in Montreal Vic also enjoyed many weekends at the Hawkesbury Gliding Club pursuing his love of flying including instructing others. He was a man of many talents who was able to converse with people from all walks of life. Vics smile and sense of humour will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank Dr. John MacPherson and all the staff of The Lodge at Broadmead for their compassion and loving care. A memorial service will be held at First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 4725 Falaise Drive, Royal Oak, on Saturday, August 5 at 12:00 noon. Reception to follow. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Resource Centre, 2571A Quadra Street, Victoria, B.C., V8T 4E1 or the Lodge at Broadmead, 4579 Chatterton Way, Victoria, B.C., V8X 4Y7 in memory of Vic Davey.
