MELVIN FRANK FONTAINE February 16, 1948 - August 2, 2000 Peacefully, on August 2, 2000 at his residence on the Fort Alexander Reserve, Mr. Melvin Fontaine Sr. went to his eternal rest after a courageous battle with Diabetes. Left to cherish his memory, he leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 36 years, Mrs. Celina Fontaine. He also leaves to mourn his children, Melvin Jr. (Susan), Vernon (Sherry), Kirby (Marie), Beverly (Michael), Lana (Carey) and Tara. Grandchildren, Sheena, Melissa, Andrea, Thane, Bradley, Kayla, Alyssa, Chelsea, Jaden and Denzel. Great-grandchildren, Evander, Melvin III and Jaida. His faithful pet and companion Bill. Maternal mother Virginia Bunn (John), Aunt Mangele Bruce of Poplar River and Great-Uncle Albert Fontaine of Fort Alexander; in-laws, John and Dorothy Skeet; brothers and sisters from Fort Alexander. There are also numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Melvin Fontaine Sr. was predeceased by his daughter Sheila Denise (February, 1988) father Alec Fontaine (June, 1971) mother-in-law Myrtle Bouchard (January, 1988) great-grandson Colton Guimond (March, 1999) and sister Margaret Rose (infant) mother Clara Morrisseau (June, 1996) and father John Morrisseau (April, 1980) Uncles, Lawrence, Stanley and Dan Fontaine; Aunties, Eva Rose and Mable Franklin; Best friends, Reginald Starr and Franklin Morrisseau. In his earlier years, our Pops enjoyed playing baseball in which he was an accomplished pitcher for the Sagkeeng Cubs. He also enjoyed hockey especially when his two youngest sons played in their youth for the Isaac Brock Community Club. Our Pops favorite past time was playing the guitar and creating his own inspirational music. Pops was talented with his Journalism. He enjoyed working on the paper "The Sagkeeng News" which many people enjoyed reading. He was also talented in carpentry. Pops was a comical man who had a sense of humour and a nickname for everyone. He was an inspiration to all his children and grandchildren. Our Pops will be sadly missed by each and everyone who knew him. Rest in Peace Pops, we love you very much and youll always be in our hearts. Wake services will commence on Thursday, August 3 and Friday, August 4 at the family residence (House 148, South Shore) Fort Alexander. Funeral service will be held at the Fort Alexander Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, August 5 at 11:00 a.m. At his request, cremation will follow. Pallbearers are Vince Fontaine, Carl Fontaine, Irvin Franklin, Ben Morrisseau, Victor Rose and Gary Fontaine. Honorary pallbearers are his granddaughters, Tara, Melissa, Andrea, Sheena, Kayla, Alyssa and Chelsea.
