NELLIE LOUISA WHITE Peacefully on Monday, July 31, 2000, Nellie Louisa White passed away at the age of 84 years, at the Central Park Lodge (Poseidon Place), Winnipeg, MB. She is lovingly remembered by her nieces, Louise (Bert) Dacquay, Muriel (Alan) Wells, Dorothy (Ray) Browton and Millie Waddell; her great-nephews and great-nieces, Dan (Colleen) Dacquay, Don (Diane) Dacquay and their children, Heather (Jeff) Howie, Gary (Laura)Wells, Caroline (Marc) Rivard and Colin Browton; her cousins, Win Wilkinson, Grace (Ed) Lother, Earle (Lorraine) Wilkinson and their families. Her parents, Joseph and Rosa White; her loving brother Horace and wife Elva; and great-niece Christine Browton, predeceased her. Nellie was born on April 11, 1916 in La Riviere where she attended school. She took her Normal School teaching in Winnipeg, after which she taught at Inwood, Sperling and in the St. James Assiniboia School Division at Britannica and Assiniboine Schools. Throughout her life, Nellie touched the lives of many. Her teaching career, spanning over 30 years, left an inspiring impression upon not only her students buy also many others. Nellie was a member of Harrow United Church for 50 years, active as a Sunday School teacher, youth leader, Christmas hamper organizer, and UCW worker. In 1996, she was recognized by Harrow United Church for her many years of devoted service to the lonely, sick or others in need. She befriended newcomers, helping to find them accommodations and even teaching them the English language. In 1997, she was also recognized as a Manitoba Volunteer and was honoured by The Province of Manitoba for her many hours of volunteer work. Her complete selflessness and willingness to help other will always be remembered. Her nieces and other close friends have many fond memories of the summer holiday travels with Aunt Nellie that took them to many destinations in Canada, the U.S.A. and England. A graveside service will be held from the Manitou Cemetery in Manitou, MB, on Monday, August 7 at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Ed Lother officiating. A memorial service will be held from the Harrow United Church, Winnipeg, MB, on Tuesday, August 8 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Theresa Moysey officiating. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Harrow United Church, (Memorial Fund), 955 Mulvey Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3M 1G8. The family wishes to thank the staff of Central Park Lodge and extends appreciation to those who visited Nellie in her later years. Doyles of Carman in care of arrangements, 745-2045.
