Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANTHONY (TONY) NOWICKI It is with great sadness that we announce the passing into the hands of God of our dear husband, father and grandfather Tony Nowicki, on Friday, August 4, 2000 at Central Park Lodge II. Tony was predeceased by his parents; his daughter Connie in 1991; brothers, Stephen, Peter and Michael and sisters Anne, Carrie, Olga, Cathy, Maggie and Evangeline. Born June 4, 1912 in Elma, Manitoba, Tony received his early education at Elma and Whitemouth before entering the faculty of agriculture at the U. of M. He subsequently joined the CNR for the start of a 44 year career with the railway, most of which was spent in the Winnipeg Regional Accounting Dept. In 1943, Tony married Verna just prior to his being sent to England on active service for the remainder of the war years. Never being one to sit still, Tony was always on the go. Upon his return to Winnipeg in 1946, he served as a recruiting sargent in the Air Force Auxiliary, 17th Wing and was also involved with the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Tony was active in the formative years of the Assiniboine Credit Union, serving as a member of the credit committee for 26 years. Shortly after retirement from the CNR in 1977, Tony took on the role of secretary-treasurer of Charleswood Golf Course continuing in this capacity with the assistance of Verna and his daughter Connie for more than ten years making countless friends in the process. He was a long time member of Oxford United Church and very active until recently when his mobility had become severely restricted. Tony was a life member of the Winnipeg Chapter of the Fraternal Order of Elks, an association that spanned 30 years and which included a term as District Deputy in 1977-78. After his retirement from the CNR, Tony and Verna became regular visitors to Maui, their favorite winter destination. Having inherited the family trait of not being able to decline a game of crib, Tony could often be found around the pool engaged in a tournament with friends. Tony loved sports. If he couldnt play it he would watch it, especially golf, football, hockey and curling. He was a life member of Charleswood Golf Club, a life member of the Manitoba Seniors Golf Association, a member of the Senior Senators Curling Club at the Granite and a long time season ticket subscriber for the Blue Bombers. He treasured the many friends he made through his active involvement in life. Tony will be greatly missed by his loving wife Verna with whom he shared 57 wonderful years; his son Tom and wife Betty and grandsons, Miles and Tyler. He also leaves to mourn his sisters, Jean Johnson of Redditt, ON, Joyce Ducharme of Elma, MB and Ada Fenton of Manitoulin Islands, ON; as well as many friends and relatives. By his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Oxford United Church on Wednesday, August 9th at 2:00 p.m. The family extends their deepest appreciation to Tonys fantastic neighbours for their tremendous support over the past few years, the third floor staff at Central Park Lodge II and the fifth floor staff at the Victoria Hospital for their care and compassion, the superb Home Care staff who attended to Tony, the staff at Riverview Day Care Centre, Dr. L.M. da Silva for his care in recent years and to the many friends for their considerate support. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Elks and Royal Purple Fund for Children, c/o Elks of Canada, #100 - 2629 29th Avenue, Regina, Sask S4S 2N9 or to a charity of your choice. Your memory is in our hearts forever. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home Cemetery and Crematorium 885-9715
