Born January 24, 1933, Bruce was the only child of the late Harold and Hilda Turner Reid of Norwood. He attended the Colorado School of Mines and worked for Inco in northern Manitoba before becoming a Building Inspector for the City of Winnipeg for over 30 years, retiring due to his illness. Bruce is survived by his wife Rae; daughter Holly (Richard) and granddaughter Elizabeth of Winnipeg; daughter Janice (Brian) Baryliuk of Stonewall; son Gordon of Winnipeg and Gordons fiancee Karen Hoffman of Moorhead, Minn.; mother-in-law Margaret Poole; sisters-in-law, Shannon and Shauna Poole of Selkirk; brothers-in-law, Bill (Judy) Poole of Winnipeg and Ted (Lorna) Poole of Keewatin, Ont.; four nephews, one niece and several cousins. Bruce loved horses and dogs, everything Scottish, chocolate cake, "going for coffee", walking, and sports of all kinds. He coached soccer in St. Vital and was a member of the Heather Curling Club for many years. He was a gentleman and a dreamer who, because of his illness, never realized his greatest dream of visiting Scotland one day. The family wish to thank the compassionate staff of the Middlechurch Home who cared for Bruce the past few years, particularly Gloria, his "day-companion", Mickey, night nurses Maureen Grove, Gloria Smith and the other lovely ladies who provided coffee and kind words during Bruces last hours. Special thanks to Brian, Ted, Shannon and Shauna for "being there". Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 12 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with interment to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Middlechurch Home or to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba would be greatly appreciated.
