Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCLAUDE BURNHAM WANKLING Peacefully and surrounded by love, Claude passed away after a lengthy illness at the Grace Hospital on August 5, 2000. Left to celebrate his life with many wonderful memories are Mona, his wife of 52 years; beloved children, Shaun (Les Leonoff), Lori (Brad McKay), Marc (Donna Wankling), Blair (Janet Harvey) and grandchildren, Nicole, Darcy, Megan and Patrick Leonoff, Jessica, Nathan and Sarah McKay, Lindsey, Morgan and Eric Wankling; brother Dick Wankling; and sister Muriel Simpson. Claude was predeceased by his parents, Alfred Maurice Wankling and Florence Augusta Wankling (nee Archibald). Claude was born December 3, 1922 and resided in Winnipeg all his life. He served in the R.C.A.F. for three years during World War Two and was employed at the Canadian National Railway for 48 years as Regional Supervisor Financial Planning, Engineering Department. He was a member of Silver Heights United Church and the United Church Presbytery, serving in various capacities and on numerous committees for many years. In his younger years, he was a longstanding Scout Master and Group Committee member of Scouts Canada. Claude was a kind, gentle person who greatly loved his family, his church and the C.N.R. He loved the outdoors and created many memories of family trips camped and trails hiked. He and Mona travelled extensively and Claude was always willing to be the Happy Wanderer. Family traditions played a very important part in his life. He leaves us with a great legacy. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Grace General Hospital for their loving compassionate care during Claudes illness and their support to the family. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Claudes Life will take place at Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Ave., on Thursday, August 10 at 2:00 p.m. Donations may be made in Claudes memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8 or a charity of your choice.
