ART LARSON July 16, 1917 August 7, 2000 Suddenly on August 7, Art suffered a heart attack and passed away at his home. He was predeceased by his loving wife Ethel and his brothers, Olaf, Torlief and Bjarne Larson. He will be dearly missed by his daughters, Laura (Ken Kelsch) and Claire (Ron Waugh) and grandsons, Kris, Dirk, Scott and Geoff. Art grew up on a farm that he loved in Irma, AB where his parents had emigrated from Fiskabygd, Norway. As a young man, he left the farm when war threatened. He was very proud of his experiences as an R.C.A.F. fighter pilot for five war years. When he returned from the war to Canada, he married his high school sweetheart, Ethel. They moved to Edmonton where Art completed his Bachelor of Agriculture degree and Ethel worked at the hospital as a nurse. In 1949, Art and Ethel moved to Winnipeg with his new position as Agricultural Officer in Freight Sales with the C.N.R. He enjoyed the challenge of the C.N.R. for 35 years. At this point, he moved on to a position as Manager of the Public Markets, Union Stock Yards, where he retired at the age of 68. Art was always proud of his Norwegian heritage and he loved his trips to Norway and the visits from his Norwegian cousins. He has also loved the farm, nature and the outdoors. It has given him great pleasure to return to the Irma Larson farm, to travel and to go fishing. His adventures with travel have led to many friendships. Art has been a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church for 50 years and his faith has been a very important part of his life. His grandsons and his family have been a very important part of his life where Art has given his unconditional love. We will cherish forever Arts ready smile, his sense of humour, his love of life, his work ethic and his positive support. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Arts memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 183 Sherbrook St., or the M.S. Society of Canada, 4th Floor, 141 Bannatyne St. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, August 11 at Our Saviours Lutheran Church, 600 Minto St. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
