DR. EZEKIEL (ZEKE/ZIC) MIKE January 17, 1934 - August 6, 2000 It is with the greatest of sadness that we announce the sudden, but peaceful, passing of Ezekiel Mike on Sunday, August 6, 2000. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 43 years, Bebe (Mohamed) his daughters, Indira Mike, and Kam Mike (Denis Chamberland) and grandchildren, Hannah Stinson and Adrien Chamberland-Mike. Zeke was born in Trinidad, W.I., the fourth child of the late Hamlyn and Hannah Mike. There he graduated with a degree in Pharmacy. He married Bebe in 1957, and in 1960 immigrated with his wife and young family to Winnipeg, where he attended the University of Manitoba. Zeke graduated as a dentist in 1967 and immediately began private practice which he enjoyed until his passing. He loved his work and his patients, with whom he had a special relationship. They were like an extended family to him. Zeke was a people person. He really loved telling jokes and stories to his family, friends, and patients, and enjoyed playing HIS music for them. He found great joy in being with and entertaining his two grandchildren and would spare nothing for them, as they were the pride and joy of his life. A generous and caring man, he provided dental services to the residents of the then Municipal Hospitals for many years. He also taught at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Manitoba, during the early 1970s, where his students could attest to his caring and practical application of dentistry. Zeke was a master with his hands. This was evident in the quality of his dentistry and in his hobbies, as a mural painter and stained glass artist. He was also an avid fisherman who loved to travel far and wide to satisfy this passion. Besides his immediate family, he leaves to mourn his sisters, Dorinda Sampath and Phyllis Lucky-Samaroo (Leslie) and his brothers, Dr. Arthur Mike, Dr. Victor Mike, and Hamlyn Mike (Carolyn) and his brothers-in-law, Dr. Ken Mohamed, Dr. Randy Mohamed (Annemarie), Dr. Ed Mohamed (Joyce), Nehru Mohamed (Helga), and Ajmal Mohamed (Lynda) and his sister-in-law Sandee Garrett; along with numerous nieces and nephews in Canada, Trinidad, the U.S., and England. Zeke was predeceased by his sisters-in-law, Florence Pemberton (Mohamed), Rose Mike, and Sylvia Mohamed; and by his brothers-in-law, Saran Sampath and John Pemberton. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 10 at 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. A reception for family and friends will be held in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in Zekes memory may be sent to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6, the Misericordia Health Centre Foundation Eye Clinic, 99 Cornish Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 1A2, or the charity of your choice.
