Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCLARENCE VERNON BYHRE On Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at Kildonan Personal Care Centre, Vern Byhre, beloved husband of Edith passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness. Besides his wife Edith, Vern leaves to mourn his children, son Robert (Jean) of Chilliwack, BC, daughters, Carol (Jack Henry) of Surrey, BC, Brenda Scarcella (Biagio), and Sandra Belisle (Andre) of Winnipeg, son Bryan (Teresa) of Birds Hill and daughter Tanyss Buchanan of Toronto, ON; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brothers, Norris and Roy and sisters, Charlotte and Phyliss of BC. He was predeceased by his parents, Christian and Elma; brothers, Irvin, Wilbert, Gordon and Donald and sisters, Amanda, Myrtle, Christine, Audrey and Violet, and his great-granddaughter Maria. Vern and Edith were married on January 24, 1943, and enjoyed 57 years of marriage together. Vern had quite a storied career as a hard worker. From his driving days at the Department of National Defense to Silpit Industries as a maintenance man. He furthered his career at Canadian Oil and Imperial Oil as a driver and eventually ended his career as the Head Shipper at the Distribution Centre in St. Boniface, retiring in 1984. Away from work, Vern enjoyed nature, being with his family and participating in many sporting and other activities with his children. He enjoyed hockey and watching the New York Rangers play on Hockey Night in Canada, and football, holding Bomber season tickets in Section G for many years. He was also quite a regular at Assiniboine Downs. Vern was a member of First English Lutheran Church where he served on Council and as President. He was also a member of the Victoria Curling Club, the East St. Paul Curling Club, and a proud member of Ancient Landmark Lodge No. 3. Many heartfelt thanks to the staff of Kildonan Personal Care Centre for the loving care they have provided for our father and the support to our family. A special thank you to Dr. J. Reghr and to Linda Smith. There are far too many loving individuals to name. Also a very special thank you to his sister-in-law Alma Bulman for the many years of care. Almas going to the home to sit with Dad was so greatly appreciated. Thank you to Pastor Paul Gehr for his visits and also a big thank you to Pastor Ted Chell. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 11 at First English Lutheran Church, 484 Maryland St. Viewing one hour prior to the service.
